ISO 17100 is a seal of quality
ISO 17100 is an ISO-certification specific to the translation industry. It superceeds EN-15038, the first attempt to establish a quality standard in an unregulated translation industry. Globalisation and the large influx of immigration to Western Europe have created an urgent need for translation, which has led to an urgent need for translators and translation agencies. Rapid expansion is rarely compatible with maintaining quality, this also applies to the translation industry. The need for certification, not only for administration but for translation quality, became apparent, and ISO 17100 emerged in 2015. The Native Translator was the seventh translation agency in Europe to be certified according to the new standard. Unfortunately, many translation agencies, possibly due to the requirements or the costs involved, have chosen not to get certified. Some say that they "comply with the requirements of the standard or are registered," which of course is not the same as being certified.
What are the requirements for an ISO 17100-certified translation agency?
In many respects, ISO 17100 follows the better-known ISO 9000 standard. Whereas ISO 9000 is more general, ISO 17100 is very specific when it comes to requirements for the translation process. Everything from selection of a translator for a particular assignment and the translator's more general qualifications to the requirements for proofreading and revision.
ISO 14001 environmentally-certified translation agency
The Native Translator is a very environmentally conscious translation agency, which is fully CO2 neutral and complies with the ISO 14001 environmental standard. As mentioned above, there is a difference between following a standard and being certified and we hope to be able to announce shortly that not only do we comply with ISO 14001, but we are also certified according to this environmental standard.
ISO 27000 - we guarantee data security and confidentiality
In its latest annual report, the Swedish intelligence service cites many examples of how threats targeting companies have increased. This means there is reason to put the processing of confidential information to the test, both as a consequence of such threats and also because of stricter regulatory requirements, e.g. in the form of the GDPR. At The Native Translator, we comply with the requirements of ISO 27000, a certification that ensures we process your data responsibly.
